Prof. Tomas Albrektsson

Prof. Tomas Albrektsson was recruited by prof. Per-Ingvar Brånemark in 1967 to study osseointegrated implants at Gothenburg University. He completed his MD in 1973 and his doctorate in 1979, publishing his thesis on the incorporation of implants in healing bone grafts, with Brånemark as faculty supervisor.
Today, Prof. Albrektsson is the second most quoted author in “dentistry” in the world according to Ioannidis et al of Stanford University.
He has authored several hundred scientific papers, edited 11 books and served on the Editorial Boards of nine international, scientific journals.
Currently, Tomas Albrektsson is Professor Emeritus of the Dept. of Biomaterials at Gothenburg University, Sweden and affiliated with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Scotland.
